While loyalty programs are a great way to engage consumers, it is important to follow the laws involved with creating and running a loyalty program. There are important legal requirements to take into consideration when creating a loyalty program like expiration dates and terms of use. The program’s terms and conditions, when properly publicized on the website, app, or wherever, will serve as a binding contract with the consumer to help to prevent anything bad from happening. Without those terms and conditions, the sponsor and/or brand risks issues or misunderstandings with consumers that can turn into legal liabilities. The terms should also explain the rules along with how/when/where the consumer earns and redeems points.
An effective loyalty program is one that engages the consumers with benefits they actually want and will use. It is well-designed, implemented, promoted, and maintained. When creating a successful loyalty program there are some important things to remember but most importantly, keep it simple and well-designed, make the loyalty rewards attractive and obtainable as well as relevant. Offer a variety of rewards. Make sure the loyalty program is promoted and maintained – if the customers have multiple opportunities to join, hear good things about it or even get an incentive to join, they will. Just think about your consumers, where do their loyalties lie, and would they sign up?
