Happy 20th Anniversary to Marden-Kane Account Director, Cheryl Thornton! Get to know Cheryl below — and make sure you comment with your well wishes in the comments!
What was your job title and responsibilities when you were hired?
I was hired as an Account Coordinator for Len Bierman, one of the partners of MK at that time.
How has your job evolved over the years?
The position evolved as I learned more aspects of the job and assumed additional responsibilities, which helped with the growth of my career. Field-related technological advances, as well as the birth of social media, were also major contributors to the evolution of the position.
What is the one thing you love about your job?
Calling someone and telling them that they have won the Grand Prize…Whether it is a million dollars, a car or a luxurious trip, the reaction is priceless!
Most favorite celebrity you got to work with or meet while at MK?
I was fortunate to have worked with Sony on a promotion where they partnered with 2004 Olympic Silver medalist Mebrahtom (Meb) Keflezighi. One of the many prizes offered in this sweepstakes was a training experience with Meb. It was a pleasure working with him and his manager/brother Merhawi on coordinating the trip details for the lucky winner.
What was one thing you used every day when you first started at MK that you don’t have to use anymore, like a typewriter?
I was originally trained on a Wang computer processing system which we no longer use. By the way, I do occasionally still use a typewriter!
One piece of advice you would give anyone starting out.
Be a team player, set realistic goals, learn from your mentors, be a mentor, work hard, use your talents or strengths and above all have fun because this is your career!
